The Goop Detox~Day One

Today I began Day One of the Goop Detox plan. So far I am up past lunch & it's going well. I have done cleanses before & I know that the first day is always the easiest. You are full of will power & whatever you may have indulged in the day before starting is still carrying you through. For instance, I never care much for eating anything until lunch time. But, once I begin a diet, I am suddenly ravenous when I wake up. Tomorrow will be harder, I'm sure.

7:00am {or upon rising}: A glass of room temperature lemon water
8:00am: Herbal Tea {for me, green tea...I need my caffeine}
10:00am {breakfast}: Blueberry & Almond Smoothie
11:30am: Coconut water {brands like Zico, or Vita Coco are good}...I love coconut water!
1:30pm {lunch}: Salad with Carrot Ginger Dressing
4:00pm {snack}: A handful of pumpkin & sunflower seeds {raw}
6:00pm {dinner}: Broccoli & Arugula Soup

Blueberry & Almond Smoothie
1 1/2 cups almond milk
1/2 cup blueberries
1 scoop whey protein fortified powder {not soy protein}
1 scoop ProGreens type of powder {preferably with probiotics}

Blend all the ingredients in a blender.
Note: I have had smoothies just like this, minus the ProGreens, many times before & love them. I usually use BioChem vanilla whey powder. I found a blend that had the greens already added. So, I tried that.
NEVER AGAIN! It was revolting. I had to choke it down, because I didn't have anything else in the house. But, next time, I'm skipping the greens!

Note: I used Zico coconut water. It has no added sugar, but is naturally sweet. It's delicious!

Salad with Carrot Ginger Dressing
1 head of baby gem lettuce {or any greens}, roughly cut
1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
1/4 avocado, diced
Carrot Ginger Dressing
Note: So good!!

Broccoli & Arugula Soup
makes 2 servings

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 yellow onion, roughly chopped
1 head broccoli, cut into small florets {about 2/3 lb.}
2 1/2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon each coarse salt & freshly ground black pepper
3/4 cup arugula
1/2 lemon

Heat the olive oil in a medium nonstick saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and sauté for just a minute or until fragrant. Add the broccoli and cook for four minutes or until bright green. Add the water, salt and pepper, bring to a boil, lower the heat and cover. Cook for eight minutes or until the broccoli is just tender. Pour the soup into a blender and puree with the arugula until quite smooth. Be very careful when blending hot liquids; start slowly and work in batches if necessary (you don’t want the steam to blow the lid off). Serve the soup with a bit of fresh lemon.
Note: I omitted the lemon. It was pretty good. Not sure if it was because I was so hungry, or if it really is good. Not much food for dinner. I'm pretty hungry, but staying strong!

GOOP Solidarity!
I'm on Day2 and have had a headache since lunchtime on Day 1. I did this detox last year and didn't suffer this much which means I really need to do it this year! I do add lots more protein than the original plan so I can keep up my work outs.
Good luck!

I've never done a cleanse before, but have always wanted to. Maybe you'll convince me to try it myself!

Beryl~ That's awesome that you are doing it as well!! Keep me updated, will you? Since you're one day ahead of me.
I broke down & had some black coffee, so the headache went for me.
I can't imagine working out on so few calories {other than walking, yoga, etc.}. So, that's a good idea to add the protein.
Good Luck to you as well!

Hi, Kate! I'm on day 3 of this detox. I've done it twice before and love it to bits and pieces. I substitute a few things here and there depending on what I have available so if you're interested and have a Facebook account, you can check out my progress @ http://www.facebook.com/moonglow1980

Love your pictures! Good luck with future cleanses!
